Louisville’s Democrat Mayor Gets Punched at Juneteenth Event

Louisville’s Democrat Mayor Greg Fischer, who is white, got punched by a random person on Saturday night while attending a Juneteenth event.

The incident took place at Fourth Street Live, a dining an entertainment venue, which was hosting Juneteenth celebrations throughout the weekend.

The mayor had participated in the “Race for Justice” in honor of Breonna Taylor and the “Kentuckiana Pride Parade” earlier in the day.

In social media posts about the assault, the Louisville Metro Police Department released photos of the attacker and asked for the public to help identifying him.

The suspect appears to be a black male.

“ASSAULT SUSPECT: Earlier this evening, while at Fourth Street Live, Mayor Fischer was punched by an individual. The Mayor is doing fine. LMPD is investigating and will release further information as it becomes available,” the Louisville Metropolitan Police wrote in a Facebook post.

Fischer is currently serving his third term as mayor and cannot run again due to term limits in the city.

Back in February, Democrat mayoral nominee Craig Greenberg survived an assassination attempt. A bullet fired by the alleged shooter, racial justice activist Quintez Brown, grazed his sweater — but he was uninjured.

“Tonight my thoughts are with the Mayor and his family. Whoever is responsible for this assault needs to turn themselves in,” Greenberg said of the assault on Fischer in a Twitter post. “We cannot solve our disagreements with violence.”
