FBI, Bomb Squad Investigating After Explosion on University Campus

Boston police are investigating a package that detonated at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, on Tuesday evening, leaving at least one person injured.

A department spokesperson told Fox News that officers responded to Holmes Hall at 39 Leon St. around 7:16 p.m. for a report of a “potential package that had detonated.”

Police confirmed on Tuesday night that a 45-year-old male staff member was injured in the explosion. The victim, who suffered minor hand injuries, was taken to a local hospital.

Boston Police Superintendent Felipe Colon confirmed that a second similar package was found and “rendered safe” by a bomb squad unit.

“The building has been evacuated and a notification was sent to the Boston campus at 7:55 pm urging people to avoid the area,” a university spokesperson said. “We will update members of the Northeastern community when more information is available.”

Boston EMS and Boston fire were also on scene. Boston EMS said the patient was taken by BLS ambulance to an area hospital.

The FBI told Fox News its Boston field office “is aware of the incident and coordinating with our law enforcement partners as expected.”

Mayor Michelle Wu thanked first responders for their “swift, coordinated and effective response” during a press conference.

“We want to make sure to emphasize that this is of the utmost priority, the safety and well-being of all of our young people here,” the mayor said.

The Northeastern University Police Department said services were responding to an “incident” at Holmes Hall and urged people to avoid the area during the investigation.

“Our officer responded within a minute of the initial call,” Northeastern University police chief Michael Davis said on Tuesday night. “It’s very important to know that our campus is secure, and we will maintain a secure campus in perpetuity.”

Police at nearby Tufts University also said emergency services were responding to an incident at Holmes Hall and urged residents to avoid the area.

Police at MIT were also urging the community to be cautious and report “suspicious packages.”

Authorities did not reveal any information about a potential motive during the Tuesday night presser. The incident remains under investigation.

DAMN, is the ‘Unabomber'(Ted Kaczynski) back? I hadn’t heard he was let out of prison, but with the way things are going today, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t.

My gut instinct tells me that the 45 yr. old “victim”(?) was perhaps responsible, especially since there was a 2nd unexploded bomb found as well. I can’t remember a “bomb” directed to an individual or group that was found or detonated was also accompanied by another similar “bomb”! ONLY a “Bomb Maker” has multiple “bombs” in his immediate vicinity!!!!!!!!!!
