Antifa Member Who Stabbed Black Conservative Journalist Gets No Jail Time

An alleged Antifa member who stabbed a black conservative journalist in the back amid 2020 Portland rioting has been given probation in connection with the attack.

Blake D. Hampe, now 46, was caught on video stabbing Andrew Duncomb, 28, near a federal courthouse just after 2:30 a.m. July 25, 2020, OregonLive reported, citing court documents.

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Heidi Moawad late last month said Hampe will remain under her supervision for three years and is banned from possessing weapons or participating in unlawful assemblies or riots during that time, OregonLive said, adding that he may attend lawful demonstrations.

Hampe pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault under the terms of the deal, the outlet said.

Court papers indicate Hampe was convicted of possessing child pornography in federal court in Maine in 2008, OregonLive added.

In video of the attack, Duncomb asks Hampe, “Hey buddy, why are you following us?” while throwing his arm around Hampe’s shoulder before falling backward in pain, the outlet added.

Here’s how Portland police described the aftermath:

Police arrived and found one male suspect held down by several bystanders and one male victim with a stab wound. Police attempted to create a crime scene but were unable to due to the aggressive crowd behavior and lack of community cooperation. The victim was transported to an area hospital with a serious injury, and the suspect was arrested.

Portland Police Bureau Detective Division responded to the incident and took over the investigation. 43-year-old Blake D. Hampe was charged with assault II and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

OregonLive said Hampe spent about three weeks in county jail before posting bail.

Duncomb told OregonLive in a previous story that the knife entered his back between his rib cage and hip, just inches from his spinal cord, and that he was he was treated and released from the hospital a day after the stabbing.

“I was stabbed for being a conservative journalist,” Duncomb told OregonLive, which noted that he records video of demonstrations and other political events under the moniker “Black Rebel.”

Defense attorney Alicia Hercher said prosecutors struck a plea deal after seeing evidence that Duncomb’s injuries weren’t life-threatening, the outlet added.

Duncomb in a statement the prosecutor read during the sentencing hearing said he had spent years suffering from post-traumatic stress because of the attack but was now ready to move on, OregonLive said.

“I have healed from a lot of the mental effects that this incident has had on my life, and I’m just ready to put it all behind me,” he said, according to the outlet. “I hope that Mr. Hampe will be able to contribute something positive toward society.”
