On Wednesday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper to discuss the future of the Democratic Party.
Despite numerous attempts to get her to commit to Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s 2024 running mate, Pelosi failed to provide a concrete answer to the question.
Pelosi on whether Kamala is the best running mate for Biden:
“He thinks so, and that’s what matters.”

“Is Kamala Harris the best running mate for this president?” Cooper asked.
“He thinks so, and that’s what matters,” Pelosi replied. “I don’t think people give her enough credit.”
Pelosi went on to claim that Harris’ values were “consistent with the president’s,” adding, “She’s very politically astute. Why would she be vice president if she were not?”
“When she was running for attorney general in California, she had 6 percent in the polls,” Pelosi continued, “and she politically astutely made her case about why she would be good, did her politics, and became attorney general, so people shouldn’t underestimate what Kamala Harris brings to the table.”
Cooper asked his original question again.
“She’s the vice president of the United States,” Pelosi replied, once again failing to provide a direct answer. “People say to me, ‘well, why isn’t she doing this or that?’ I say, ‘because she’s the vice president. That’s the job description. You don’t do that much.'”
Pelosi went on to suggest that Harris has done well to embody the vice presidential values of “strength, inspiration, intellectual resource, and the rest,” adding that she has “represented our country very well at home and abroad.”
Anderson Cooper: “Do you think there’s any chance [Biden] does not continue running?”

Pelosi was asked whether she believed there was any chance Biden would retire and opt not to run again in 2024.
“I hope not,” she replied.
Cooper brought up a Washington Post column written by David Ignatius in which he suggested “if [Biden] and Harris campaign together in 2024, I think Biden risks undoing his greatest achievement – which was stopping Trump.”
Pelosi dismissed his statements, saying, “Yeah, so? That’s one. He also said he shouldn’t run because he allowed me to go to Taiwan.”
