Watch: Chick-fil-A Deliveries Arrive by Drone in Florida

Chickens have taken flight once again. A Chick-fil-A in the suburbs of Tampa, Florida launched a new pilot program on Monday that features new delivery drones.

Chick-fil-A announced the new initiative on Instagram last week, showing a video of employees getting the meal ready and then placing it onto a small drone before it takes flight and delivers the box.

The drone is specifically designed to be carefully sealed off so there are no spills during the flight process, according to 10 Tampa Bay.

Those interested in the new service can currently only order if they are near a store location in Valrico, Florida, and must do so between 10 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday, The Messenger reports.

A representative of the Valrico Chick-fil-A reportedly told a customer that the flying drones are able to make deliveries within 1.2 miles, but also said, “We anticipate a 2 mile radius soon.”

This new business idea comes after the Chicken giant entered an agreement with DroneUp, a Virginia drone company that has also worked with Walmart, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Chick-fil-A spokesperson Chelsea Lee said that the company is “in the early stages of testing drone delivery at a small number of Chick-fil-A restaurants.”

Also coming from Chik-fil-A soon is the use of autonomous robot vehicles.

Really, how lazy do they want our society to become… and at what cost physically as well as financially???

  • RS says:

Actually, I think this is a good way of doing business, and it has nothing to do with society being lazy we are all near the point when this is the simplest way to send products to customers who have no way to go to the various stores weather it’s by robotic cars or drones there are many people who compromised by health this is a good thing.

I think it’s a fantastic idea! I have trouble walking around my 1400 sq ft home. I can no longer walk through stores to select merchandise but have to go to stores that have curb side pick-up and then I have trouble carrying everything into the house. I would love a milkshake that I didn’t have to drive 3 miles to get and 3 miles back home. May God Bless

  • Will you receive a correct order? With Chik-Fil-A you probably will! Win/Win says:

With the number of elderly, retired or housebound residents in Florida, I think this is a great idea. Imagine being trapped in a Nursing Home because both of your adult children don’t live anywhere around. You are forced to eat the same menu, printed on a calendar every month. They have 2 hr bus jaunts to take you to the Pharmacy, Walmart or Bingo Hall 1 or 2x a month. I’d love it. To be able to order “favorites” for my Grandmother and have it delivered to her in a facility – or to my Father who just tore his achilles tendon and mobility is challenging and driving impossible right now. I think it will be GREAT in Florida for about 45% of the population. Great for New Mommies that just got home from the Hospital or someone working way too many hours – – Send a Snack to your favorite someone to brighten their day! It doesn’t always have to be for ourselves; but think of others that can’t get out as much as they used to do and send them a treat. $20 and a few minutes is all it will take to make someone feel Super Special when they are surprised with a yummy delivery from Chik-Fil-A. I’ve never had anything from that place that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy – – – I just hope they triple check and include every item ordered. I just ordered from Burger King today, as I’m too busy working on Thanksgiving meal prep – – what did they forget – – The Hershey’s CHOCOLATE Pie – OMG! What I really wanted is the item they forgot in my 2 bags. Chicken Sandwich for me, whoppers for the dogs but NO Hershey’s Chocolate Pie…. It never fails with Fast Food Places, those that work at them have a genetic defect and they ALL are hard-wired to forget ONE item I swear!
