Watch: MTG and George Santos Show Up at Trump Courthouse

You know it’s going to be a hot time at the courthouse where former President Donald Trump was being arraigned. For more of the goings-on, check out the Open Thread where we’ll be highlighting the happenings at the courthouse.

As I reported earlier, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had announced she would be there. Mayor Eric Adams took a swipe at her telling her that she should be on her “best behavior” and that Trump supporters needed to “control” themselves. MTG let him have it, telling him he should be more concerned about how he and the Manhattan DA were failing New Yorkers and that they should take care of their house.

Then the reaction of leftists in New York proved her point — it wasn’t her behavior he had to worry about, it was the behavior of the folks who tried to shut her down, blowing whistles and banging drums so she would not be heard. Talk about an attack on free speech.

She went on to say in New York that Adams put a target on her back.

“He’s never met me before, he only believes the lies he’s seen on the news about me, which is terrible,” she said. “I was watching CNN earlier this morning and they were calling me a conspiracy theorist and saying horrible things about me.

“That’s the type of news Mayor Adams listens to about me and then he named me by name, warning me. It was a warning and it was really a threat,” she added.

“I perceived it as a threat from the mayor of New York City, for me to not come. He threatened me. He put a target on my back and that was wrong. He owes me an apology. That was horrible behavior for a mayor.”

Maybe the mayor should be checking his behavior.

While she was there, she also compared Trump to other famous people who had been arrested in political persecutions. “There have been many people throughout history who have been arrested and persecuted by radical, corrupt governments, and it’s beginning today in New York City. I can’t believe it’s happening, but I’ll always support him. He’s done nothing wrong.” She compared being politically prosecuted to Jesus and Nelson Mandela. That’s a bit too far with the comparison to Jesus, but I get the anger about the political prosecution.

But for one great statement as to why he was there at the courthouse, for media thinking that lawmakers shouldn’t be showing up, there was Rep. George Santos (R-NY). They don’t seem to get that the right gets a voice here too, especially when a political prosecution/persecution is going on.

I’m not a fan of Santos, but this is the perfect answer when the media gets up in your face and acts like you don’t have a right that you have when it comes to speech, guns, or anything else. “Because I can” is perfect. That was a drop-the-mic moment.
