Trump and Mike Pence React to News of Shinzo Abe Shooting

Former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence reacted to the shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday morning.

“Absolutely devastating news that former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, a truly great man and leader, has been shot, and is in very serious condition,” Trump said on Truth Social.

“He was a true friend of mine and, much more importantly, America. This is a tremendous blow to the wonderful people of Japan, who loved and admired him so much. We are all praying for Shinzo and his beautiful family!”

Trump and Abe apparently got along well during their tenure as both president and prime minister. Trump officially visited Japan in 2019, and Abe visited the United States to meet with him back in February 2017.

“@KarenPence and I were deeply troubled to learn of the shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe-san was a remarkable leader of Japan and an unshakeable ally of the U.S. We join millions praying for this truly good man and his family. God bless Shinzo Abe,” Pence tweeted.

Their reactions are just a fraction of the outpouring of well-wishes for the prime minister, who is currently in critical condition, according to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who helicoptered back to Tokyo from a campaign speech and held a press conference to address the shooting. The Prime Minister said that doctors are “doing everything they can” to save him.
