An unidentified man threatened to drive his Jeep into the Iowa location where Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake was holding a rally on Saturday.
According to a police report of the incident obtained by The Iowa Star, a “scruffy and big” man, “…declared that he was god, and stated he would drive his vehicle through the bar doors.”
The Ankeny Police Department report noted, “Female who ran for Gov. In Arizona is There.”
Initial reports described an “angry, threatening man” walking into the District Venue, at 1350 Southwest Vintage Parkway in Ankeny in suburban Des Moines at 5:28 pm, minutes after Lake entered.
According to the police report, “Male was acting strange in the parking lot asking where the event was tonight.”
The man allegedly told one of the bartenders, “Remember my shirt,” and left in his vehicle as officers arrived at the scene, according to the report.
According to The Star, a source told the outlet that the owner of the venue parked his truck outside the back door in case the man attempted to carry out his threat.
One of the outlet’s reporters covering the rally saw a large man standing in the open door of the venue, and reported that he yelled out something unintelligible, and was escorted out.
The suspect remains at large and the police issued a “Special Watch” for the man, who fled in an older model yellow Jeep Renegade.
After spotting the vehicle later in the evening, an officer “was unable to get a plate before (the) Jeep entered onto the interstate,” according to the report.
Lake spoke to a standing-room-only crowd Saturday afternoon during a rally for former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign to win back the White House. According to the outlet, former Iowa
Governor Terry Branstad, who also served as ambassador to China in the Trump administration was on hand for the event as well as Republican Party officials.
Lake is currently in litigation regarding her narrow election loss for the Arizona governor’s mansion last year to Democrat Katie Hobbs. Lake has taken the case to an Arizona appeals court after losing the first round of legal challenges.
She told the crowd of over 250 people at the rally that she is confident she will “end up in the governor’s office.”
Lake added, “I have just enough Arizona in me and just enough Iowa in me and I’m not going to let them win.”
Last November, Lake’s campaign headquarters in Phoenix reported receiving an envelope containing “suspicious white powder” days before the election, forcing the campaign to close the office.
