Sen. Tim Scott Launches 2024 Presidential Exploratory Committee

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is set to launch a 2024 exploratory committee, a major sign that he may run for president in 2024.

Two sources familiar with the matter told the Post and Courier that Scott, 57, plans to launch the committee on Wednesday. The move would make him the first Republican to launch such a committee for 2024 — even declared candidates haven’t launched exploratory committees — further adding to speculation that the South Carolina Republican will throw his hat in the race.

An exploratory committee allows candidates to direct funding to polling and travel to politically vital states. They can then transfer the money to a campaign if launched.

Scott is scheduled to be in Iowa, the first state to vote in the Republican primary, the same day he is expected to launch his exploratory committee. He will then travel to the politically important state of New Hampshire before attending a summit in South Carolina.

Though Scott looks increasingly likely to run for president, the move puts him on a collision course with two key GOP allies: former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who appointed him to the senate in 2012, and former President Donald Trump.

Scott has been hinting at presidential aspirations for some time. He gave perhaps his most direct hint at a November 2022 election victory party when he addressed the crowd.

“My grandfather voted for the first man of color to be reelected as president of the United States,” he said. “I wish he lived long enough, long enough to see perhaps another man of color — and this time, vote for a Republican and not a Democrat.”

I think he knows this is a possible path to the VP. Just imagine the democrats calls of racism when he does not win the primaries.

This will make the primaries very interesting. Personally, I will support Pres. Trump but I will also support any Republican that wins the nomination.
