Sen. Richard Blumenthal Undergoes Surgery After Breaking Leg at UConn Victory Parade

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) will undergo surgery on Sunday after suffering a fractured femur over the weekend at an event in his home state.

A Blumenthal spokeswoman told the Washington Examiner that the 77-year-old was walking in the UConn Huskies victory parade in Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday when an individual in the procession tripped and fell on top of him from behind.

The Huskies won the Men’s NCAA Basketball National Championship on Monday. The Democrat, who is currently serving his third-term in the Senate, will have a “routine” procedure this weekend to address the fracture.

“Senator Blumenthal suffered a fracture when another parade goer tripped and fell onto the Senator from behind,” the spokeswoman said. “He will have routine surgery on Sunday and anticipates a full, strong recovery.”

Blumenthal spoke to a local reporter by phone Saturday evening who described him as seeming “alert” and “in good spirits.”

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) revealed in a tweet that “after he broke his femur he got back up, dusted himself off, and FINISHED THE PARADE,” calling the move the “most Dick Blumenthal thing ever.”

“What can I say, I love a parade!” Blumenthal wrote in response to Murphy’s post. “Thanks to Chris & everyone for the well wishes. I did indeed fracture my femur after a fellow parade goer tripped & fell on me during the parade today. Routine surgery tomorrow just to make sure everything heals properly. I expect a full recovery!”

The Senate is in recess until April 17, giving Blumenthal just over a week to recover before he’ll be needed back in Washington.

Democrats currently control the Senate by a 51-49 margin, meaning that one absent lawmaker could give Republicans an opportunity to block President Joe Biden’s nominees and legislative efforts. The chamber has been beset by absences of members from both parties in recent months, which has complicated Democrats’ ability to push certain priorities through the chamber and underscored just how tenuous their majority is.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) will return to work when the current recess ends, which comes after a six-week hospital stay for in-patient depression treatment that kept him from the chamber. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has been absent due to medical troubles since March, and her team has yet to say if she will be back at work when the Senate reconvenes next week.

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) was forced to miss votes when he traveled home after his mother died in late February, while Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) was absent for just under two weeks that same month when he underwent surgery for prostate cancer.

On the GOP side, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was missing for most of March after suffering a fall that resulted in a two-week rehab stay. He is expected to return to the Senate after the recess, though that has not been confirmed.

Let us not forget what Dick Blumenthal is best known for and the MSM continues to try to bury the story and the truth. The “man” is the poster child for “Stolen Valor”!!!! He told war stories of his heroics in Nam for years and used those same stories when he 1st ran for election to the Senate. It was not until he was exposed as NEVER serving in Nam. His cowardly apology was accepted by his fellow demorats and the MSM. But, we who served honorably and took an oath to Defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and Domestic, do not forget nor forgive those who stole Valor. My fervent wish is that he would have been trampled to death in his fall and have to meet his maker. He and every politician whose name is followed by a (D) and supports what the current failed administration could die tomorrow in the most painful death possible and I for one would not blink an eye. Death to all traitors of this Country and our beloved Constitution is my verdict should I be asked.

These lazy SOB’s “work” 112 or 118 days out of 365 and have the swinging brass balls to give themselves outrageously high pay increases. WTF?!?
Awww, Blumenthal broke his leg. Serves Mr Stolen Valor right!
Fetterman knows he’s actually going to work and not draw stick figures with crayons and finger paints, right?
Hit the bricks Feinstein, you should’ve been gone long ago!
Mitch “SwampTurtle” McConnell, just leave! There’s absolutely no good reason for you.
Bob “Do Nothing” Casey was, is and will forever be useless! He’s been riding on daddy’s name for too long. At least Bob, Sr actually did something. Call it a day, Bob, because aside from costing us a fortune, you’re doing nothing for us in NePA! Why don’t you and and that other do nothing dunce, Cartwright, disappear. You both have financially raped the NePA taxpayers to the point of losing everything they broke their ass working for!
I wonder what the next president’s going to do with you freeloaders? Hopefully, he, being President Trump, will make examples of all of you and include you all on his list of traitors of the US people, Constitution, God and country. It’s most definitely time to see traitors be dealt accordingly, as they were in the days of our Founding Fathers.
