National Hockey League player Ivan Provorov’s jersey was sold out on several websites in men’s sizes on Thursday after the player did not take part in an LGBTQ event due to his religion earlier in the week.
As of Thursday afternoon, on the Fanatics and NHL Shop sites, the jersey did not appear to be available in men’s sizes and was only able to be purchased in women’s sizes. Other apparel seemed to be available for purchase, as were custom made jerseys.
Outkick reported that the men’s jersey for the player was only available in an extra-small size on the two sites. Fanatics and NHL Shop were both saying the jerseys were “almost gone” for people to buy.
On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers were set to warm up in jerseys that reflected the organization’s Pride Night event. Provorov received criticism when he did not join for warmups, later pointing to his religious faith, which is Russian Orthodox.
“I respect everybody and I respect everybody’s choices,” Provorov said following the game. “My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion. That’s all I’m going to say. … That’s all I’m going to comment on that. If you have any hockey questions, I’ll answer those.”
A spokesperson for the Flyers put out a statement following the game, stating, “The Philadelphia Flyers organization is committed to inclusivity and is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community. Many of our players are active in their support of local LGBTQ+ organizations, and we were proud to host our annual Pride Night again this year. The Flyers will continue to be strong advocates for inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community.”
The Flyers head coach, John Tortorella, also discussed the situation, defending the player.
“I think the organization has sent out a release regarding the organization, the beliefs that we have and how we feel about [Pride Night] and, really, a great night,” Tortorella said. “With Provy, he’s being true to himself and his religion. This has to do with his belief and his religion. It’s one thing I respect about Provy, he’s always true to himself. That’s where we’re at with that.”
“Why would I bench him? Because of a decision he’s making on his beliefs and his religion?” Tortorella also said. “It turned out to be a great night for Pride night.”
“I think it was a great night in celebrating,” Tortorella said. “The organization has put out a statement. I’m not going to get too deep into the conversation. Those are the comments as far as Provy. We talked as a team and with Provy, and that’s where we’re at.”
Selling out of his Jerseys should tell the NHL’s who is behind what. The only one to stand up against this bullshist and everybody loved him for it. GO WOKE GO BROKE!
