The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol protest won’t hold its ninth hearing next week, making it unclear when the panel will reconvene before releasing its full report later this year.
Chairman Bennie Thompson confirmed the committee will hold its ninth and possibly last hearing before the election on Nov. 8, although a date has not yet been decided. No witnesses will be scheduled to testify at the hearing, he said.
The update comes after the committee’s next hearing, which was initially set to be held on Wednesday, was canceled due to Hurricane Ian.
“In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings,” Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) said in a statement. “We’re praying for the safety of all those in the storm’s path. The Select Committee’s investigation goes forward and we will soon announce a date for the postponed proceedings.”
One of the committee members, Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), represents a district that is in the path of the hurricane. Murphy represents Florida’s 7th Congressional District, which covers much of the north-central part of the state between Orlando and Daytona Beach.
The hearing was expected to feature “substantial footage” of the Capitol riot and “significant witness testimony” that has not been previously seen, Thompson said last week. It was also set to be the first public hearing since the FBI conducted its raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in August, although it’s unclear whether that search provided any new evidence for the committee’s investigation.
This phony partisan committee didn’t want to share the media spotlight with a hurricane so they cancelled their meeting. But they’ll continue to manufacture more bogus lies about Trump and the January 6th protestors PRIOR to the midterm election because they’re trying to do anything they can to influence people to vote against Trump’s America First candidates in November.
This entire farce has been 100% politically motivated from the start and everyone with a functioning brain knows it. This committee is a total joke and another huge waste of taxpayer dollars and rational Americans aren’t gullible or ignorant enough to buy into the latest political witch hunt from the Democrats and Trump haters.
