A fire broke out in downtown Bowling Greeen, Kentucky early Friday morning, causing significant damage to a commercial building on State Street that houses Sen. Rand Paul’s local office.
The source of the blaze has not yet been determined. An investigation is currently underway by the Bowling Green Fire Department.
According to the Bowling Green Daily News, crews were called to the scene around 1:45 am, and got to work battling the blaze. Despite their best efforts, the flames ripped through the structure, and the roof soon collapsed in on itself.
Footage from later Friday morning showed that black smoke was still emanating from the building.
“We are thankful for the Bowling Green first responders who arrived quickly to the scene to put out the fire, and are continuing to work with authorities to assess damages and to determine a cause,” Paul said in a statement to the Daily News.
“We have a very well established emergency management plan and have the ability to continue operations that will not impact our work helping Kentuckians.”
