Fani Willis Breaks Silence on Misconduct Accusations

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis publicly addressed the allegations of misconduct against her Sunday.

Willis took the podium at Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church in Atlanta, Georgia, Sunday to make her first public comment since the allegations emerged that she was in a romantic relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade. The two are in the middle of trying a case against former President Donald Trump over alleged election interference.

“Wait a minute, God. You did not tell me as a woman of color it would not matter what I did — my motive, my talent, my ability and my character would be constantly attacked,” Willis read from a letter she’d written.

“Oh Lord, they’re going to be mad when they call us out on this nonsense. First thing they’ll say, ‘Oh, she’s going to play the racism card now.’”

“But no, God, isn’t it them who are playing the race card when they only questioned one? Isn’t it them playing the race card when they constantly think I need someone from some other jurisdiction in some other state to tell me how to do a job I’ve been doing almost 30 years?”

While she did not name Wade, she did mention hiring three special prosecutors and paying them all the “same hourly rate” and lamented that the one who is a part of the allegations is a black man. Willis cited his “impeccable” credentials. Former Trump campaign official Michael Roman claimed in a lawsuit that Wade has been paid $654,000 in legal fees by Fulton County since January 2022.

Willis admitted she is “as flawed as they come” but did not want “to be filled with hate” like she claimed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is. The Georgia representative has called for an investigation into Willis.

“You cannot expect black women to be perfect and save the world,” Willis said. “We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace.”

Willis was the target of a “swatting” when an anonymous caller reported to the police that a person had been shot dead at her home on Christmas night and officers arrived on the scene. The judges overseeing Trump’s trials in New York and Washington, D.C., were also swatted around the same time.

Neither Wade or Willis have confirmed they are in a relationship. However, Willis was subpoenaed to testify for Wade’s divorce proceedings.
