Disney Exec Who Opposed DeSantis’ Parental Rights Bill Ousted

A Disney chairman who voiced his opposition for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ anti-grooming bill has been ousted from the company.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rice said that he saw the Parental Rights In Education Bill as “a violation of fundamental human rights.”

Rice, who has worked at Disney since its acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, was “chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content (DGE) which creates original entertainment and news programming for The Walt Disney Company’s streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu and Star, and its cable and broadcast networks,” according to the Walt Disney Company’s website.

Variety describes Rice’s ousting as a “shocking turn of events.” Deadline reports that Dana Walden, the Chairman of Entertainment will take over his position. “The move marks a high profile restructuring shift made by Disney CEO Bob Chapek, as he continues to put his mark on the studio post Bob Iger,” they write.

They continue:

“Rice had to spend the past few months fending off wide rumors that Warner Bros Discovery chief David Zaslav would tap him to run the entertainment business for him. When it was clear Zaslav wanted execs to report directly to him, Rice pulled himself out of the running, making this a true shock.

“Rice signed a new contract just last summer. Meanwhile, Walden’s contract was up this year, and she had been negotiating a new one with Disney over the past couple of months. Clearly, for Disney CEO Chapek, it came down to choosing between the two executives, and he made his pick.”

Who would think that someone in your corporation that cost it $billions with their political ranting should be fired… There’s a lesson in this. Corporation executives should keep their political beliefs out of the corporation’s business!
